At around 6:40pm on Sunday 3 February 2019, police were called to Harper Green Road to reports that a car had been involved in a collision with a tree.
Emergency services attended and two 19-year-old women were taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries. They remain there for treatment.
Further enquiries have established that a grey VW Golf had been travelling on the road, coming from the direction of Plodder Lane, when it narrowly avoided colliding with a black car at the junction of Carnation Road.
The Golf then collided with a Honda Accord that was parked up before hitting a tree and a house. The black car left the scene shortly after the collision took place.
The two injured women were travelling in the Golf as passengers at the time of the collision.
A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving but has since been released under investigation.
Sergeant Jon McColl, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Two young women remain in hospital having sustained serious injuries and my thoughts are with them.
“Our investigation is in the early stages so I am appealing for anyone who has information to come forward. They may have witnessed the collision or the Golf driving in the area immediately before.
“I am also keen to identify the black car that left the scene. Although there was no direct contact, the driver is aware of the collision and I would urge them to make contact as soon as possible.”
