Three people have been charged following a police pursuit in Bolton.
Shortly before 4.30pm on Friday a 75-year-old woman had been walking her dog in Moss Bank Park and was returning to her car when she was approached by three masked men. They threatened the woman, threw her to the ground and removed her car keys from her hands.
The offenders then made off in the woman’s red Mercedes A-Class.
Luckily the woman was not seriously injured, but she was left incredibly shaken by the ordeal.
At 11.15am on Saturday officers spotted the stolen vehicle driving along Watergate Lane, Over Hulton. The Mercedes was subsequently pursued down the southbound M61 where it exited at J3 for the Kearsley spur, before attempting to do a u-turn and drive against the flow of traffic. The officers were able to make tactical contact and bring the Mercedes a stop.
Three officers suffered minor injuries.
21 year old Calvin Park of Finch Avenue, Farnworth has been charged with robbery.
A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with robbery, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.
Another 15-year-old boy, who also cannot be named has been charged with robbery.
They have been remanded to appear at Bolton Magistrates’ Court today.
Police Sergeant Jon McColl, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The stolen vehicle was pursued and tactical contact was used to stop the car as it made a dangerous attempt to drive the wrong way down the motorway.
“Thanks to the quick-thinking of the officers, they prevented what could easily have been an extremely serious collision.
