Police Use Drones And Specialist Officers To Tackle Off-Road Bikes In Bolton

A special task force has been in action following a number of complaints from residents in the North of the borough.

Over the last three months officers have received around 81 complaints, averaging one a day about anti social behaviour involving the vehicles.

As a result a task force has been in action in areas including South Breightmet, North Smithills and Bradshaw.

In the last week several bikes have been seized and officers say more proactive operations are planned.

Drones are being used to assist and specialist officers who are themselves trained to ride off-road bikes have been drafted in.

Inspector Nicola Williams who is leading the operation said "We are using GMPs community safer team who are trained to ride off road bikes and our pathfinder which is our drone unit and we are looking to seize bikes when we see people riding them.

"We've got quite a lot of positive feedback you know children playing in parks or people walking their dogs don't want to be faced with people using off-road bikes."

Officers are asking residents to report any problems via 101 or use the forces online crime reporting services.
