Police Investigating Death Of Maggie Smyth In Bolton Launch Fresh Ground Search

On Friday 1 February 2019 detectives investigating the disappearance of Margaret Jean Smythe, known as ‘Maggie’, found her body at the rear of the Red Bridge Pub on Red Lane in Breightmet.

Today specialist officers are continuing with enquiries in the area of Firwood Fold in Bolton. 

Maggie, 29, was last seen on Saturday 26 January 2019 at her home on Swinside Road, Breightmet. 

On Saturday 2 February, detectives investigating her death charged a 39-year-old man with her murder. 

Detective Inspector David Meeney of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “We have a team of specialist officers searching the area of Firwood Fold reservoir in connection with the death of Maggie Smythe. 

“Maggie’s loved ones are still coming to terms with their loss, and we are determined to give them the answers they deserve.
