Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was chased and attacked with machetes in Bolton.
At around 12.25am on Wednesday 23 January 2019, police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed on Spinning Meadow in Bolton.
The man was walking along Spinning Meadow when he was approached and chased by a group of six men.
The group of men – wielding machetes – stabbed the man several times before kicking him as he lay on the ground.
Five of the men are described as being Asian and one described as being black. They are thought to have been wearing casual clothing.
The victim- a 33-year-old man- was taken to hospital with multiple injuries to his head and to his body. He remains there in a serious condition.
A cordon was in place on Chorley Old Road while investigation work was carried out but this has since been lifted.
Enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Craig Wallace, of GMP’s Bolton Borough, said: “This is a brutal and vicious attack which has left a man seriously injured in hospital and our thoughts remain with him and his family at this incredibly difficult time.
“I want to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to piece together exactly what happened and trace those responsible for this senseless crime.
“I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how big or small they think it might be, to please get in touch with police.”
