Emergency services have rescued a man who became trapped under a bin lorry in Prestwich.
Emergency services were called at around 10am and remain at the scene near M&S.
We've been told that the pedestrian involved is a man who has suffered leg injuries which is being treated as major trauma and he has been taken to hospital.
The Southbound side of the road is closed from Fairfax Road to St Mary's Road with congestion back to the M60
In a statement Greater Manchester Fire Service said
"At 10.04am , GMFRS were called to a road traffic incident on Bury New Road in Prestwich.
"Incident involved an adult male trapped under a large vehicle. Two fire engines from Whitefield and Broughton, and a technical rescue unit from Ashton, attended the scene.
"Crews used specialist equipment to free the man and worked with colleagues in the ambulance service. The man has been taken to hospital."
