Man Dies Following Hit and Run in Bolton

A man has died after he was hit by a car in Bolton last month

59 year old John Richardson was knocked down by a car on Rishton Lane in Great Lever  shortly after 10pm on Friday 20th September.

He was taken to hospital but sadly passed away last Friday.

Enquiries by police have established that a silver Vauxhall Vectra had collided with John before leaving the scene. The car was later found abandoned and on fire on Heywood Gardens.

Witnesses have also described seeing a red VW Gold on Rishton Lane immediately after the collision.

Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, I want to extend my most since condolences to Mr Richardson’s family as they come to terms with their loss. We are providing them with support from specially trained officers at this difficult time.

“John’s death was incredibly tragic and we want to provide answers for his family. I want to urge anybody who may have information about the circumstances surrounding the incident to please contact us.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who can help us trace the occupants of the red VW Golf that was spotted at the scene of the collision.”
