Man Arrested Following Burglary In Smithills

Detectives investigating a burglary in Smithills have arrested a man.

Shortly after 7.40am on Wednesday 27 February 2019, officers were called to reports of a burglary at a house on Capitol Close, Bolton.

It was established that sometime in the early hours of the morning someone had broken into the house via the kitchen window, taken the victim’s house keys then let themselves in.

Inside the house the keys to the victim’s car were found and the victim’s silver Ford Mondeo was stolen.

Officers launched an investigation and earlier today (Thursday 28 February 2019) a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He remains in police custody for questioning.

The Mondeo is yet to be recovered.

Inspector Karen Clappison, of GMP’s Bolton division, said: “The victims were left extremely shaken by this burglary, their home, their private space, the place they should feel safest was invaded whilst they slept.

“As part of our forcewide Operation Dynamo, we are cracking down on car thefts across Greater Manchester and thanks to some excellent work from our colleagues, we arrested a man in connection with this burglary less than 24 hours after the incident had occurred.

“Although we have made an arrest our investigation is still ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the early hours of Wednesday morning, your information could be vital to our enquiries.”
