Local Leaders In Bury Send Condolences To New Zealand After Mass Shooting

Civic leaders in Bury have voiced their solidarity with New Zealand and the victims of the attacks in Christchurch.

The flags outside the Town Hall have been lowered to half mast as a mark of respect.

Councillor Rishi Shori, leader of the council, said: ‘We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to all of those affected by the terrible events that took place in Christchurch last night. We stand in solidarity with the people of New Zealand in decrying these abhorrent acts.

Terrorism is a scourge to humanity and the worrying increase in extreme far right attacks and rhetoric across the world, including in the UK, should act as a reminder for us all to double our efforts to challenge hate in all its forms and stand up to bigotry.

We are fortunate in Bury to have a diverse community where people of all backgrounds contribute positively to what makes our town a great place to live. We will continue to promote these ideals wherever and whenever we can.’
