Heavy snow yesterday afternoon combined with plummeting temperatures led to treacherous conditions on some of our roads especially in the Ramsbottom area
Last night the conditions were so bad that traffic came to a stop on the M66 and drivers were stranded for hours while police dealt with several incidents including a collision near junction 2 where a car came off the road.
Snow ploughs have been deployed in some areas to try and clear main routes but drivers are being advised to drive slowly and carefully this morning as more snow could be on the way.
Junction 2 of M66. En route to one incident when we come across this vehicle. Witness accounts all suggest driving way too fast the conditions. Fortunately no injuries. Recovery en route. Please drive safely and #arrivealive pic.twitter.com/ZDQ3HuxJex— GMP Traffic (@gmptraffic) 11 February 2018
