Foster Care Fortnight

Foster Care fortnight is a national campaign which aims to promote fostering services across the UK. Currently there is a national shortage of foster carers and this is certainly true in Bury. Currently many of our Bury children are being placed with foster carers outside of the borough as we just do not have enough foster carers for the number of children and families needing support.

Placing Bury children outside of the borough means that they have to travel long distances to see their parents, siblings and friends. They tell us clearly that this puts extra pressure on them at a time of great uncertainty and loss.

Foster Carer Fortnight serves to highlight the national shortage of foster carers and Bury Fostering Team has taken this opportunity to really show off the work we do in Bury . This year’s theme is ‘In the Frame’ and here in Bury we wanted to take our frame on a journey, celebrating all those who work hard to for our children in foster placements.

Like all good celebrations should, we started by having a party! The Fostering Team held a messy play party for our younger Looked After Children, foster carers and their own children. During the party each child helped us to decorate our frame, to represent the children we placed their hand print on the frame. The party was great fun and it was wonderful to see friends meeting up again and new friendships being made.

Once our frame was suitably decorated we took it on a journey to various groups across Bury who work hard for children in foster care.

If you are a foster carer in Bury who is looking to offer a long term placement to children, or you are interested in becoming a foster carer, we have a number of children today who we are actively looking for safe home for. We would be delighted to hear from you.
