Police have identified six people responsible for the disorder at McDonalds in Wigan.

At about 10.30pm on Tuesday 10 April 2012, police were called to McDonalds on Standishgate.

Officers arrived to find approximately 100 young people inside and outside of the restaurant.

Some of these customers verbally abused staff, some climbed over the counter and stole food, others threw rubbish and food across the restaurant.

Nine young people have been arrested for public order offences, one for burglary.

Five people aged between 14 and 17-years-old have received a reprimand, a 17-year-old boy was given a fixed penalty notice and three people aged between 16 and 17-years-old have been bailed until Thursday 3 May 2012.

Sergeant Nicola Williams from Wigan Neighbourhood Policing Team said, "We have identified six people responsible and they have been dealt with by way of a formal warning or a fixed penalty notice. Three others are on police bail pending further police inquiries.

"The behaviour of those responsible was disgraceful, a baying mob who subject staff working in McDonalds to abuse of an indecent nature, causing them to fear for their personal safety.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community and our partner agencies who have supported us with our investigation, this behaviour will not be tolerated by the people of Wigan or the Police, together we have brought these offenders to justice."
