Padding on coat stopped screwdriver
The padding of a man's coat came to his aid when a man lunged at him with a screwdriver.
At about 11.45pm on Saturday 21 January 2012, the 29-year-old man was walking home along Queensway after a night out in Swinton.
A man who was walking past him asked him for five pounds, which the victim refused.
The offender then walked after him and said "What about now?", lunging at him with a screwdriver.
The blade of the screwdriver hit the mans stomach, but the padding on his coat, and the fact that he managed to fend the attacker off, meant he was left with only bruises.
The offender then ran off empty handed.
He is described as being a white teenage boy, about 16 years old, and of slim build. He was wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers and white trainers. The screwdriver had a yellow handle.
Police Constable Michelle Ingham said: "The victim has been left shaken up by this attack, although he did manage to defend himself.
"We would urge anyone who may have seen this offender, or witnessed the attack, to call us."
