Bones discovered under a flyover of M60
Remains have been found in Stockport.
At 11.45am on Wednesday 15 February 2012, police were called to an area underneath a flyover of the M60, near junction 3, following reports of human remains being found.
Officers attended and discovered some bones which are believed to be human.
The A34 slip road onto the M56 has been shortened while police deal with the incident and there is likely to be a police presence at the location for several days.
Detective Chief Inspector Sara Wallwork, of Stockport CID, said: "We are in the process of conducting a careful examination of the location and only when this has been done will we begin to recover the remains for further examination.
"At this stage we do not know if there are any suspicious circumstances or even if these are the full remains of a body, whether they belong to a man or woman, adult or child or how long they have been there.
"I know there will be some concern and speculation and I would ask the local community to bear with us while we carry out what will need to be a careful and thorough investigation.
"I would also ask that anyone who has any information that could be of assistance to this investigation to please call us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Stockport CID on 0161 856 9840, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
