About Tower FM

Tower FM started life nine years before getting the full transmission licence as Bury Sound. The station was granted various RSL licences these normally for a period of one month. In 1999 however the Radio Authority granted the station a full licence to serve Bolton & Bury and Tower FM was born.

People often ask why the name Tower FM. It represents the two areas of Bolton & Bury by identifying the Towers in both areas, namely Turton Tower in Bolton and Peel Tower in Bury.

From its original owners, the station is now owned by UTV Radio, who also own other local radio stations all over the UK and also operate the national commercial station Talk Sport. The group believe strongly in the station remaining in-touch with the local community and a broadcast output that reflects family values, ensuring that the station is suitable for all ages at all times.
